A flat, pale, matte wall works and is what most owners use. A cheap screen buys you maybe 10–15% more perceived contrast — worth it if your walls are dark, textured or glossy. Not required.
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Curtains drawn or after sunset, the picture is rich and contrasty. Add daylight or an overhead light and it washes out fast. If you need a daytime projector, you're looking at a different class of product entirely.
For one person in a quiet bedroom, yes. For a group or outdoors, pair a Bluetooth speaker in about ten seconds. Most owners do this permanently — it's the single biggest upgrade to the experience.
